Dell Optiplex 320 Won't Boot Black Screen

Hello, I have a Dell Vostro 320 All-In-One PC (Mid 2009).. It was working fine, but today when I turned it on the screen stays black. The power light comes on. It is solid white. Also, there aren't aren't any beep codes. I tried turning it off and on several times, but every time the same thing happens.

Does anyone know why it's doing this or how to fix it?

Do you see the bios when it starts up? Does it have on board graphic card? Off the top of my head you could try Try f8 on start up and select last known good config....

Depending how black black is, if you do not see any difference on the screen between it being powered up or turned off, it could be that the screen backlight has failed.  Being that it is a 2009 model it probably is a CFL (compact flourescent) backlit display and the bulb or the inverter power supply board powering it failed.  Usually the bulbs do not just fail, they will show signs of failing like a red hue before they outright fail so I am thinking the inverter.  If it is a failure of the backlight you may want to consider checking to see if there is a LED backlight retrofit kit for it.  Otherwise you should also be able to find replacment CFL parts for it as well, but at six years old you may also want to weigh the cost of fixing it, including your time, against the cost of a new computer.

Does it have a connection for a second monitor? If so, you could plug one in and see if that shows anything.

Nope, unfortunately it doesn't. I actually have a usb to VGA adapter, but it won't work without the software installed and since I can't see anything on the screen I can't install any software.

I'm stuck on what to try next.

Unfortunately, there may be nothing else to try. Since there are no beeps or anything, it may just be dead.

If you have files on there that you need, pull the hard drive out and connect it to another computer to get them.

Sounds like it is dead.

I would guess a 6 year old consumer pc is well out of support so Dell will not be of much help either.

It's worse than that it's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead Jim. It's worse than that, it's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead Jim, dead!

You could set up an ad hock network and see if your can RDC into it. Could be a bad display. could be a bad mobo.

In all reality I would look into removing the hard drive and putting it in a USB adapter so you can get your files off of it.

Some of these Dells no longer have Beep Codes.. Try removing the RAM and then reinstalling it. That works in most of our later Dells that boot up to a black screen.
